The Sri Ramasamy Memorial Engineering College (SRMEC) was started in the academic year 1985-1986 at Kattankulathur, Kancheepuram District, Tamil Nadu. The college is located in a sylvan campus of 140 acres skirting the National Highway (NH45) about 15 kilometers from Tambaram. The College is a constituent Institution of the SRM Institute of Science and Technology. It is also affiliated to the Anna SRMIST for the fifth year ongoing U.G. Courses. This is one of the first of a few engineering colleges started under the self financing scheme of the Tamil Nadu Government to meet the increasing demand for technical education.

This institution is run by Valliammai Society. The motivating force behind it is our dynamic Chairman and Founder Thiru. T.R. Pachamuthu, B.Sc., M.I.E. The Management has been rendering yeoman service to the cause of education in this part of the country. S.R.M. Engineering college has obtained highest grade of accreditation from National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi.

The college campus consists of twenty five blocks of buildings with a built-up area of about 80,000 sq.m for laboratories, workshops, library, class rooms, Principal's Quarters, Staff Quarters, Guest House, Administration, IT Park, Post Office, Bank, Gymnasium, Indoor games, Hostel for Boys and Girls and other facilities.
